A three-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after a shocking incident at a family-run zoo in Cambridgeshire, England, where he was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure. The child suffered serious injuries during the ordeal, prompting a major emergency response and a police investigation. Thanks to the quick actions of zoo staff and family members, the boy was rescued and is now reported to be in stable condition.

The Incident at the Zoo

The incident occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a family-run zoo near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

According to reports, the young boy was allegedly thrown approximately 15 feet into a crocodile enclosure while visiting the attraction with his family. Witnesses watched in horror as the child landed inside the habitat containing large reptiles.

Serious Injuries Sustained

Authorities said the boy suffered significant injuries, including a broken arm and pelvis. Reports also suggest he may have been bitten or attacked by at least one crocodile before rescuers reached him.

He was rushed to hospital, where he initially remained in critical condition before later being upgraded to stable condition.

Heroic Rescue by Zoo Staff

The child’s rescue was made possible by the rapid response of the zoo’s owners and staff.

Tracey Johnson, one of the zoo’s owners, reportedly jumped into the enclosure to help save the boy. Her husband Andrew Johnson and their son Edward also assisted in the emergency response.

Their quick actions are being credited with helping prevent an even more tragic outcome.

Police Launch Investigation

Following the incident, police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Authorities stated that the suspect was not known to the child or his family. After being assessed by medical professionals, the man was deemed unfit for questioning and was later released on bail pending further investigation.

The case remains under active review.

Questions Surrounding Supervision

Reports following the incident have raised questions about the circumstances leading up to the event.

Witnesses claimed the suspect may have been accompanied by carers earlier in the day, although authorities have not confirmed those details. Investigators continue to examine all aspects of the case as they work to establish exactly what happened.

Inside the Crocodile Exhibit

The zoo’s reptile section houses several large crocodiles and other reptiles. Warning signs throughout the attraction remind visitors that the animals are dangerous and that children must be supervised at all times.

Following the incident, the Tropical House exhibit, where the crocodiles are kept, was temporarily closed while investigations and safety reviews continued.

Community Relieved by Child’s Recovery
