A Las Vegas horse show was shaken after three horses were allegedly stabbed inside a barn during a weekend competition. Police arrested a 17-year-old rider in connection with the incident.
The case has drawn concern across the equestrian community, especially after one owner said the teenager had been following her online and appeared fixated on her horse.
Horses Injured During Las Vegas Event

The incident happened during the Professional’s Choice Vegas Super Show at the South Point Hotel & Casino. According to Las Vegas police, three horses were reported injured around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities said the teenager had access to the barn and investigators believe she may have used a knife to injure the horses. Police said the injuries were not considered life-threatening but were expected to keep the animals from competing.
The injured horses were identified as Detail, Rocket, and Saaul Good, also known as Sully. For riders, the attack was not only a competition setback but an emotional shock.
Owner Says She Saw Teen Before Attack

Arielle Phillips, the owner of Detail, said she saw the teenager near her mare’s stall shortly before the attack. Phillips told NBC News the teen tried to make conversation by asking unusual questions.
Phillips said the teenager had followed her on social media for a long time and had shown interest in both her and Detail. She said she had never responded to the teen’s messages.
After leaving the stall, Phillips said Detail was attacked minutes later. She wrote on Facebook that her mare was stabbed several times, panicked, and ran through the barn bleeding.
Police Arrested a 17-Year-Old

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested the teenager after the horses were found injured. Because the suspect is a minor, police did not publicly release her name.
The teen was booked on suspicion of multiple counts related to injuring horses and felony malicious destruction of private property. Investigators have not released a motive.
Police said the suspect had access to the barn during the event. The National Barrel Horse Association also said the alleged attack involved a competitor at the show.
Prosecutors Seek Adult Charges

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said his office is seeking to prosecute the teenager as an adult. He described the allegations as deliberate acts of cruelty against defenseless animals.
Wolfson said the case had a major impact on the owners, victims, and the wider equestrian community. His office said animal abuse cases are treated seriously.
Nevada law allows some juvenile offenders to be prosecuted as adults depending on the severity of the alleged crime. Prosecutors said they believe this case meets that standard.
Detail Is Recovering, But Owner Says Trauma Remains

Phillips said Detail is recovering from her wounds, but the emotional damage has been difficult. She said the mare, who once trusted her completely, now reacts fearfully when approached.
The other injured horses are also expected to recover, but the incident prevented them from competing. It also raised concerns about safety and access inside horse show barns.
For many riders, horses are more than athletes. They are trusted partners, which makes the alleged attack especially painful for those involved.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not publicly shared a motive. But for the equestrian community, the incident has already become a disturbing reminder of how vulnerable animals can be, even in spaces meant to protect them.
